Week 4: WY-CO
Total Mileage: 1,534 mi
Total Elevation: 66,168 ft
Flat Tires: 6
Mental Breakdowns: 1
(all totals are cumulative)
Pat had another tough week. He had to take a significant detour into Colorado because of bad weather, dealt with a string of motel stays (also weather-related), and got several flat tires thanks to puncturevine burrs (aka goatheads).
That said, the kindness of strangers remains a major highlight. All kinds of people have stepped in to help, whether it’s handing him homemade beef jerky on the side of the road or offering him shelter to dry his gear. While taking shelter from the weather, Pat met Garrett, who recommended that he head to Pedal House in Laramie, WY, to replace his bike tubes. Garrett then surprised him by calling ahead and paying for the tubes in advance. The kind folks at Pedal House also gave Pat a free beer and a set of tire levers.
In Week 5, Pat heads to Nebraska and hopes to get back on track to Kansas.
